Can You Use a Trailair 5th Wheel Pin Box with a Deflated Air Bag
Question:
We have a Trail Air/Air Ride pin box on our 2016 Redwood 5th wheel. The pin box was replaced summer 2018 we are getting ready to go on our annual Thanksgiving camping trip and the air ride black cushion is “flat”. We see an air ride replacement on your website but won’t have time to order and replace before we leave town. We are going put air in it and hopefully it will hold the air. If it does not, our question is: can we still travel with the air ride cushion not fully inflated? Also, what psi is recommended?

If the air bag on your Trailair pin box is not holding air you should not travel with it. Traveling with and underinflated air bag can result in reduced or loss of product performance. Reduced or loss of product performance can cause product and/or property damage. You would want to replace the air bag with the Replacement Air Spring for Trailair 5th Wheel Pin Boxes # LC432404. This air bag replacement works with all Trailair fifth-wheel pin boxes.
According to the owners manual you need to have a minimum of 45 PSI in the air bag and a maximum of 120 PSI. You will want to inflate your air bag with enough air to raise the pin box to the ride height mark on the front of the shock absorber which is typically going to be around 80-90 PSI.
