What 5TH Wheel Hitch Do I Need For a 2022 Ram 1500 That Has a 5'6" Bed?
Question:
I'm needing a 5th wheel hitch to install in my 2022 Ram 1500. I'm a bit confused because I thought I should have a sliding 5th wheel hitch since it is a 5'6" short bed truck. All it shows is fixed hitches for my truck, why is that?

A fixed 5th wheel hitch like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047 is recommended because you only have the 5-1/2' bed on your 2022 Ram 1500. Your 5th wheel will need to have a king pin with a rotating turret like the Reese Sidewinder # RP34FR. Rather than a sliding hitch that will move the pivot point back 10-12 inches, the Sidewinder moves the pivot point back 22". This gives you more turning radius than a sliding hitch would offer and also will not require you to manually slide the hitch when maneuvering.
To determine the correct pivoting turret style pin box you will need to find which pin box you have. This information is generally found on one of the decals on your pin box. It can also be found with the Lippert frame tag information or by measuring the pin box and bolt hole locations. I have linked an article below that will help you identify your pin box.
You will need the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56018-53 to install the Reese 5th wheel hitch in the bed of your Ram.
