While it could be the fault of your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 it does sound like a wiring issue on the truck. The blue wiring leaving the controller and running to the 7-way on your vehicle may be shorting out to ground and it is tricking the controller into thinking that a trailer is connected. The clicking would likely be the controller sending power to the brakes.
I would disconnect the blue wire coming from your Prodigy P2 to the truck and see if the same issue continues to occur. Be sure to terminate both ends of the wire to ensure that it does not cause any further damage to the wiring or vehicle. If you continue to see the controller change from n.c. to c. and make the clicking noise you know that the brake controller is faulty and needs replaced.
If you do not experience the controller changing and clicking there is a short in your wiring. This could be at the 7-way or somewhere inside the truck. You can follow the wiring from the 7-way and disconnect it at different locations with the brake controller connected to determine where in the wiring you are seeing the short. If you let me know what you find and what truck you have I can help with further testing and replacement components.
