How To Install 4 to 7-Way Adapter On 2016 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Had someone hook up the wiring with a trailer break/ 4 and 7 way also. All the truck lights work fine as before. I dont have the RV yet, but purchased a 4/7 pin circuit tester. The guy ran out of time seeing he lives 75 minutes away, but thought he had it fixed. I asked him after he left, did he check the 2 fuses he installed and he said he did. He said I might need another switcher part that goes to each set of tail lights etc, with the circuit box mounted to the frame. I got under the truck 2016 Tacoma and their are 2 wires tied up . but not connected. I dont have turn signals according to the tester. My question: One is purple and one is black. Will this fix my problem and give me power to the RV signal lights and running/park lights, or will this short something out, seeing not black to black or purple to purple? I didnt see any same color to connect to. Thanks.

In regards to a 4 to 7-way adapter like the 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way Adapter part # ETBC7, the 4-way plug controls the running lights and stop/turn signal circuits. The other wires separate of the 4-way are for ground (usually white), power (usually black), reverse (usually yellow), and brake output (usually blue). In most cases the reverse wire just gets tapped up as it's not used. If the trailer does not have a battery then same goes for the power wire as well as the blue wire if there are no trailer brakes. I recommend a complete kit like the above and then you can follow along with one of our many install videos such as the one below on an 09.
Unfortunately, I really can't say what functions the wires you pointed out have as not all adapters use the same color wires for the same functions. If you don't have turn signals then that points to an issue with the 4-way, not the 7-way necessarily.
