Curt Cargo Carrier And Bike Rack Compatibility With A Dual Hitch Extender On A 2005 Chevy Astro

Question:

Am thinking of combining these three items. I have a lifted 2005 Chevy Astro AWD and the current 2inch Curt hitch is 17inch high from ground to center. It seems as if the cargo rack below and the bike rack above would work on the extender. Sound plausible? Curt Dual Hitch Extender for 2inch Trailer Hitches - 8inch Extension Item # D-192 Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4inch and 2inch Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting Item # C18085 19x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2inch Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs Item # C18109 Thank you, Jon

Yes, you could technically use the Curt Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 8" Extension # D-192 to hold both the 19x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18109 and Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack # C18085.

The only issue is that using a hitch extender like the # D-192 would reduce the tongue weight and towing capacity of your 2005 Chevy Astro's trailer hitch by 50%. The trailer hitch you have most likely ranges from 300-400lbs which would mean you'd only be able to utilize 150-200lbs with 84lbs of that being used by the bike rack and cargo carrier. If you're ok with only having 66-116lbs of weight capacity available then this setup will work for you.

Another option to utilize the most out of your vehicle's hitch would be to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Bike Rack w/ Cargo Carrier for 2 Bikes # HR1450Z-85 which is a two bike rack with a cargo carrier. The weight capacity of this rack is as follows:
As 2-bike rack with cargo carrier: 50lbs per bike and 100lbs of cargo.
As stand-alone cargo carrier: 220lbs.
