Can Glacier Snow Cable Chain for 2018 Subaru Forester Get Through CA Check Points

Question:

Im driving a 2018 Subaru Forester, Limited 2.5 in California. Sometimes CA Highway Patrol requires carrying and installing chains on certain mountain passes in the Sierra Nevada Mtn. Range. My understanding is that Glacier Snow Cables #PW1038 with tensioner are suitable for low clearance tire well, such as Subaru Forester, and importantly are acceptable in CA. Can I use just one set on front wheels, or do I need 2 sets, one set each for front and rear wheels? Please advise. Thanks

One set of tire chains/cables like the # PW1038 with tensioner # PW105 would get you through the highway patrol inspection and would also work in an emergency situation to get you around. These are also lower profile to help with clearances. Having chains on all 4 tires would give you the best traction but it's not uncommon for a single set to be used.
