Comparing Stay-IN-Play Versus Blue Ox Patriot For Flat Towing a 2018 Chevrolet Spark

Question:

I have 2 questions: 1. Since the Chevy Spark is under 3000 pounds, does it really need a braking system? 2. What is the difference between the Stay-in-Play #SM99251 and the Portable Patriot #BLU37TR. Thank you

This will vary depending on where you will operate your motorhome while towing your 2018 Chevrolet Spark. Every state has either a specified weight or maximum stopping distance allowable when towing either a trailer or flat towing a vehicle like you plan on doing. You would have to check every states law in which you plan to tow your spark through to determine if you are required to have a braking system on your spark.

The main difference between the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 and the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR is going to be that the Stay-IN-Play is mounted inside your Spark and all you have to do to activate it is flip a switch mounted inside your cab. The Patriot is a portable system which must be installed every time you need to tow your Spark and removed when you are disconnecting from your motorhome. The Blue Ox being portable allows for you to be able to use it with several different vehicles and the initial installation is not as complicated as the Stay-IN-Play. But the stay in play does give you the ease of use after installation and it will not take up additional storage space like the Blue Ox when you are not using it. Personally I like the convince of the Stay-IN-Play as it is always ready and because it is mounted in the engine compartment there is less chance of it getting damaged or disappearing.
