Can I Flat Tow My Toyota Venza And Carry Bikes On The Roof

thanks for your help with the roof rack. Would we also be able to mount a towing bar and bike rack and what would you recommend for those?

I am not sure if you are interested in a hitch receiver and a hitch bike rack or if you are interested in flat towing your 2015 Toyota Venza while carrying bikes. I will cover all my bases by answering both questions for you.

According to your owner's manual the 2015 Toyota Venza is not rated for flat towing. You will have to use a tow dolly instead. I am a fan of the Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly w/ Disc Brakes - Tilt Bed Frame - 4,800 lbs - Wide Tread, part # DM9713093. It comes with hydraulic disc brakes and it can tow vehicles up to 4,800 lbs.

With regard to carrying bike racks on the roof of your vehicle while it is being towed, I spoke with a Yakima rep and she said there was no reason that this should not work. But keep in mind, this situation is not something they test for, so you would be carrying the bikes at your own risk. If you intend to carry bikes on the roof of your vehicle I do have a recommendation. I prefer to leave the front wheel on my bike when I carry it on the roof, so I am partial to the Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack - Wheel Mount - Clamp On, part # Y02114. It will attach to your Rhino Rack Vortex bar with no problem. This rack is also fender friendly.
