How To Wire A 50Amp Pigtail Power Cord To Connect To A 30amp Twist Lock Generator Outlet

Question:

I need to know on the other end of the L14-30 female connector, the 3 prong plug that will plugs into my generator how to connect the colored wires. I have a red, black, white and green. I know the red and black are hot for each side of the plug , but do I use the white neutral or green ground in the plug. If I use the white does the green ground get attached to the ground nut on the generator?…. Thanks

Your power cord, just like with the Mighty Cord # A10-5025END will wire the black and red wires as your positive, white as your neutral, and green as your ground. The green wire should not be sticking out of the sleeve like you have pictured and the plug should have a ground nut on it.

Since you have four wires that is a 50amp power cord. Based on the picture you provided you purchased a 30amp twist lock plug which will not work with your cable. I recommend wiring the power cord to a 50amp plug like # HU63FR and then using a 50amp to 30amp male twist lock adapter like the # A10-G30350VP to connect to your generator.
