How to Lower Height of Single Axle Trailer With Leaf Springs

Question:

I want the lower the height of my enclosed trailer. Currently has axle over springs with a 3” double eye shackle. Is there a 1 inch leaf shackle available? Can I remove 2 of the small leaf springs plus put a shorter shackle? Or what are other options? I want to keep the current tire/wheel setup

The shortest shackle length is going to be 2-1/4" like the # LC122487. As for removing a leaf or two from your leaf spring, I would not recommend doing this. It will lower the weight capacity of your leaf spring and also require some modifications. You also would not be able to remove the leaf running from the hanger to the shackle strap so this would have no impact on the height of your trailer.

One possible option would be to get shorter hangers. It doesn't look like you could get any shorter on the side with the shackle straps, but the other end might work. You will need to measure your current hanger and then compare it to the available lengths. The shortest we have right now is the 1-1/2" tall # 115917.

I have attached a link which will show you all of our available hangers, as well as a helpful article on trailer suspension for your reference. I also included a picture showing how the height is measured on a hanger, which is labeled as B.
