Is There A Way To Reduce Sag In A Slide-Out Awning

Question:

I have a 2012 Fleetwood expedition 38s motorhome and the slide awning sags a little and was wondering how to tighten it.

There are a few things you can try to tighten up your awning, but the tensioner will not have a manual adjuster, unfortunately.

First, I suggest checking all your bolts and or screws to make sure they are all this tight. If they have loosened over time, it can cause some droopage.

Next, you can pull the awning off and let it unwind. This sounds highly counterintuitive, but it will then allow you to roll it back up. The tension may have loosened as well and this can sometimes tighten things up a bit.

The only other thing Lippert, who is the parent company of Solera Awnings, has recommended is to open the awning all the way on a warm or hot day and then wetting the fabric with cold water and then letting it fully dry for 15 minutes. This can help tighten up the fabric some times.

If all this fails, the only other option will be to replace it.
