Installation Help for Truck Bed Camper on to My 1999 Ford F-250

Question:

I purchased and successfully installed the TLF2011 Front and TLF 3001Rear Tie downs. Great fit, very pleased. My concern is the clearance of the overhang clearance over the cab. It is pro ably a maximum of 2. I have not attached the turnbuckles at this time. Is that the average clearance? It seems pretty tight. I wonder if there would be an issue on bumpy roads or if someone with any heft were to sleep in the bed over the cab. Im assuming that it should be fairly minimal clearance for the aero dynamics. Do you typically put anything between the rubber Bed Nat and the base of the camper? What is the ideal clearance and what if anything is recommended to raise the camper from under the camper base. Thank you in advance for your prompt response. Is it possible to add motorized telescopic legs? They are Titan hand crank, manual type at this time. Would like to make it easier for one woman loading.

From my research I found that the recommended clearance between your truck cab and the overhang of your truck bed camper is at least 1 1/2". You can put something in the bed of your truck to raise the camper, the idea I like the best is the high density foam insulating board. This will give some added height and will not be heavy to move around. You can pick those up at your local hardware store.

Once you put a piece or two of the foam boards in the bed of your truck, you will be able to attach the turnbuckles on your TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Front # TLF2011 and TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Rear # TLF3001. Once you attach the turnbuckles, you should not have issues on bumpy roads or with anyone sleeping in the bed over the cab.

I do have an option for you to replace your manual jacks and that is is the HappiJac Electric Truck Camper Jack System. This jack system will mount on to each corner of you truck bed camper and will allow you to easily remove your camper on your own.

You will need to know the weight of your truck bed camper to get the correct one. If your camper weighs up to 8,800 lbs you will need # LC736514-ELKIT. If your camper is up to 11,200 lbs, you will need # LC736515-ELKIT.
