Tilting e-Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Question:

We have purchased 2 e bikes, Electra Townie 5i, one of which is a step over. We have a 1 1/4 inch hitch on a 2017 Pacifica minivan. What is the best carrier to purchase? The Saris 4412B Freedom 2 bike carrier did not work. What ever you suggest, will the tailgate be able to open with the bikes on if there is a tilt feature? Thank you.

There are 2 different bike racks that will be the best for what you're trying to achieve; the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202, and the Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR. They are compatible with Class II 1-1/4" hitches like what you have on your 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, they are rated for heavier e-Bikes with different frame designs like what you have, plus they have a tilt-away feature to help you gain access to the rear cargo of your minivan.

In comparison we do have price to consider, but aside from that the biggest difference is the amount of tilt that both racks offer. Attached are photos of each rack tilted away from a vehicle they are installed on and it's pretty clear that the EasyFold XT has a much more dramatic tilting angle. Since we haven't installed either rack on a 2017 Pacifica yet (as of October 2021) I can't really speak to how much clearance they will offer with your van, but I can say that you shouldn't have any issues with the EasyFold XT, and if you have shorter handlebars on your innermost bike you'll have a much better shot at having the clearance needed with the OnRamp.

I'm also attaching general review videos of each rack for you to check out and to help guide you as to which rack would be best for your application.
