How Do the Bikes Mount on a RV Ladder Mounted Bike Rack

Question:

Regarding the Stromberg-Carlson, is one supposed to hang the bikes horizontally or vertically on the ladder rack? I already have the Stromberg-Carlson, but have found it so hard to use that I am thinking of getting the Surco. I only put one bike on it but it did not seem to be very strong and I found the straps simply did not hold well with the horizontal mounting I employed. Do you think the Surco is better I notice the illustration shows the bikes hung vertically. My motor home is a 2003 Fleetwood Southwind 36 B. Please give me your best assessment.

Because many RV/trailer ladders are located more left or right of center, you will hang the bikes vertically so they do not overhang the side of the RV or trailer. The bikes will hang from the part of the bike frame that holds the seat post. I have included a picture showing this for you.

All of the ladder mounted racks that we carry, see link, hold the bikes in the same way. There are other racks that can be used at the back of an RV or trailer. I have linked them for you as well. The majority of the options require that the RV/trailer have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver or a 4 inch continuous welded steel bumper.
