Can I Change The Latching Mechanism On My Trailer Coupler To Change From a 1-7/8 to 2 Hitch Ball?
Question:
Instead of changing the coupler out and changing the ball out can can you replace the guts on the coupler from ancient 1-7/8 to 2inch guts on a tongue, will it work? Will it still slide over and latch on the 2inch ball?

Expert Reply:
Unless your trailer coupler specifies that it can fit both the 1-7/8" and 2" size trailer balls, I recommend not trying to change the guts of the coupler to fit a 2" ball.
I recommend changing the coupler to the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15945. This coupler has an EZ latch coupler that will drop onto and latch to your 2" ball without having to unlatch the coupler. Both couplers will bolt onto a 3" wide straight tongue coupler. If you have a different size or A-Frame coupler please let me know and I can recommend a coupler that will fit your frame.
