Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2016 Ford Edge Titanium V6

Question:

I would like to flat tow my 2016 Ford Edge V6 Titanium behind my motorhome. I was told by the dealership that I could flat tow, no problem. Could you recommend and list all the equipment needed. Thank you

If your 2016 Ford Edge Titanium V6 is AWD then yes, you will be able to flat tow your vehicle (all four wheels down). If your model is FWD then you will need to dolly tow your vehicle with the front wheels off of the ground with a tow dolly like the # DM9713093.

To flat tow your 2016 Ford Edge Titanium V6 you'll need a tow bar, tow bar wiring kit, base plate, braking system, and safety cables. There is also a few steps listed in your owner's manual that you'll need to follow to ensure your vehicle is ready to flat tow. I have the following equipment recommendations for you listed below:

Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. This tow bar has a non-binding feature and large hookup radius to make connecting and disconnecting from the base plate on any terrain a breeze.

Base Plate: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # RM-524454-4. These crossbar-style brackets are virtually invisible, easy to mount and simple to remove. The removable arms will provide a clean and unobtrusive look when not in use.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Wire Hybrid Cord # RM-152-1676-7. This diode kit includes everything you need to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car.

Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter ( # 118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes # RM-792 will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals. Your turn signal lighting is separate so you will need to wire in this converter and additional diodes.

You'll also need to disconnect your battery to flat tow your Ford Edge, per the owner's manual. To make this as simple as flipping a switch you can install the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This braking system offers intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking using the remote conveniently from your RV. The included charge line kit will keep your vehicle's battery charged so that you don't arrive at your destination and have to deal with a dead battery.

Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent them from dragging and being damaged.

You may also need a high low adapter to keep your tow bar level while flat towing. I've attached our help guide article to walk you through the process of determining the correct adapter for your needs.
