Ways to Prevent Trailer Sway with Older Camper

Question:

Have a 2017 Ram 1500. Tow an 8’x12’ box shaped 1973 travel trailer that has a GTW of 2000-3000 pounds. It is a small old travel trailer. I need a hitch system to stop staying. Is a two wheel single axle trailer.

For a trailer that lightweight that is swaying when being towed with a 2017 Ram 1500 I'd say the issue is most likely associated with improper trailer loading or the trailer not sitting level due to the wrong rise/drop ball mount being used.

First easy thing to check is to look at the trailer as it sits connected to your Ram. Does it look level? Most likely if there's an issue here to cause sway it would be that it's sitting too nose high. I attached a help article that covers how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount.

Next thing to try is moving as much weight forward in the truck as you can as that is the most common thing to cause sway.

But if you wanted a weight distribution with the best sway control you'd want the part # RP66082 which has the best sway control at preventing sway before it starts and is the correct tongue weight range for your trailer.
