Recommended Brake Controller for a 2020 Subaru Ascent

Question:

I have a Curt Echo brake controller. Regarding the accelerometer, I read a few reviews My questions are: 1 Is there any way to adjust the accelerometer so that it does not engage the brake unless the vehicle is really trying to stop? 2 What is the experience of other people regarding problems with the accelerometer on the Curt Echo? Thanks

I have not had this issue pop up before and the Curt Echo # C51180 controller does require input for it to signal the brakes on the trailer to actuate. There will be absolutely no way for this to self actuate on its own.

With the accelerometer being set from Curt, there will not be a way to change how it activates, unfortunately. If this is a negative for you, I do recommend going with a hardwired option, which I actually prefer anyway.

With that being said, I highly recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR. This will have the cleanest look once installed and can handle trailers with up to 3 axles. The wiring will depend on how your 2020 Ascent was set up from Subaru.

If it was equipped with the factory tow package and 7 Way, you can plug the # 3062-P directly into a port under the dash and then the # 331-TPH-017 will connect the # 3062-P to the # RED44FR for a plug and play option.

If you did not have any wiring yet, you will need to add a 4 Flat harness, like the Curt # C56040, and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will get you all the wiring and plugs needed to get the # RED44FR up and running.
