Question:

I have the Swagman #S64400 for 2inch receiver.New 5th wheel has a 1 1/4 hitch. When used with the adaptor for 2, it adds too much length to rear of trailer. Can the part that goes from rack to receiver be change to smaller size,to fit trailer. Thanks

When carrying hitch mounted bike racks on the back of a fifth wheel, Swagman recommends that they be attached via a 2 inch receiver. According to my contact at Swagman, they do not recommend the use of any extensions or adapters being used with a hitch mounted bike rack on the back of a fifth wheel due to the pressure/torque being put on the hitch itself.

Swagman does not offer a replacement (or alternate size) shank for your # S64400. The rack was built on a 2 inch shank as a matter of safety and stability.

An easier way to be able to carry your rack both safely and without issue would be to use an hitch such as Curt # E-100. This is a 2 inch RV bumper hitch receiver. The guideline to install this bumper hitch is that it was designed to fit on a 4 inch square, continuous welded steel bumper. Of course, you will need to verify with your owners manual for your tongue and tow ratings of the bumper. I have attached a short video reviewing the Curt # E-100.
