What Would Cause Prodigy P3 Brake Controller to Only Show 2.9 Volts When Brakes are Applied

Question:

just installed the 90195 had to use the trailer and the gain was only putting out 2.9 when pushing the brake while towing i tried the boost levels it helped a little so i set the gain to 14 and still only putting 2.9 and i can smell my brakes cooking the manual lever works when i tried that i put my old controller back in to try and that works no problem am i missing something maybe a setting somewhere

Sounds like maybe the P3 part # 90195 isn't orientated properly for the inertia sensor to work like it needs to. The controller needs to be facing the rear of the tow vehicle squarely and also be level from side to side like what you see in the picture I attached.

It could be you have a short between the 12 volt and the brake output circuit too so I'd check there to be sure there isn't a short between these two circuits.
