Recommended Brake Controller and 7 Way Wiring Harness for a 2021 Toyota Highlander XLE

Question:

Hello, I have a 2021 Toyota Highlander XLE with an original Toyota 4 flat 4 pin trailer hitch and connector. I would like to know what parts I would need to fit a 7 pin connector. I can watch your video on the installation and wiring for the controller and the power coming from my battery for the controller and the trailer. I dont know if there is a connector already provided under my dashboard to power the controller. The other part that doesnt seem obvious is finding the right wire for the brake signal in the tailgate. I remember that I had already bought a bracket with a switch that installed under the brake pedal and that actuated the controller for braking, its seemed less complicated than finding the right brake signal wire that will give the signal to the controller. Im a little confused, could you please guide me through shopping and hooking up. I wanted to buy lately when there were discounts, but I missed it all. Is very good brake controller for ma truck? Thank you!

From what I could find, the 2021 Toyota Highlander does not come with a port under the dash for an brake controller. With that being said, you will need to use our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to get a brake controller up and running. This will include all the wiring needed as well as the 7 Way plug for the back of your vehicle.

Speaking about the wiring, the red wire that needs to be tied into the brake switch wire, like that on the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro # RED69FR, should not be run to a wire going to the tail-lights. This is due to most LED tail-lights not having enough power draw to get a brake controller working. So you will need to test the wires under the dash to find the correct one.

The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR is also a very highly recommended controller. This is one of the cleanest installs once finished out of any controller we currently carry. This will also work with trailers that have up to 2 axles with brakes.

I included install and review videos for all of these for you to check out as well.
