Installing the Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger # PD4060K
Question:
Hi, I recently bought the Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger - 60 Amp PD4060K from etrailer. Online in the etrailer questions, it says this charger can work with 30 amp shore power. Based on this, I was looking to buy the Furrion Marine Power Inlet - 30Amp - 125V - LED - Square - Black Item # F30ITSBS for the Mighty Mini. However the instructions on the etrailer website says to use a home 15 amp connection. Can you confirm if I can use 30 amp power with the Mighty Mini and if the F30ITSBS plug would work? And I wanted to confirm, the power from the charger to the battery is 60 amps. Please let me know, thanks.

Yes, for your stated objective you are on the correct track. The Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger, # PD4060K will provide a full 60 Amps of DC charge to your battery bank. This is to be used with a 30 amp AC inlet such as the Furrion Marine Power Inlet, # F30ITSBS, that you referenced. Or my preferred option, the SmartPlug RV Power Inlet and Connector - 30 Amp, # SM27FR in black. ( # SM77FR - white, # SM87FR - Gray, # SM67FR - SS .)
The # F30ITSBS is rated at 30Amp/125VAC and lets you hook up to shore power using your power cord. This then provides up to 7 branch circuits (rated at 30 amps total service) using 15 amp breakers on each branch. Typically your air conditioner will be on its own circuit, perhaps the microwave will be too. Depending on the size of the camper, a smaller one for example, may only use a few of the available leaving the others open. And for your DC distribution, there is up 12 circuits available, two at 30 amp and ten at 20 amps of DC service. With a full 60 amps of DC power for your converter to provide charge to your battery bank.
When talking about shore power, primarily from the power pedestals at campsites, there is typically an option of either 50 amp or 30 amp AC power. For some of us, I am including myself, it needs to be remembered that when talking amps there is a change from the 30 amp 120VAC input at the pedestal, to the 12VDC conversion then available from the distribution panel. The amps rating available increases greatly when converting from your AC power inlet to 12VDC.
I hope the above information is useful and that it clarifies that yes, you need to use a 30 amp inlet on your RV and that when plugged into the 30 amp pedestal at the campsite, you will have a full 60 amps available to recharge your battery bank. You will also be able to operate your AC circuits within the camper to power your air conditioner and other appliances. You will have DC circuits available to operate those items such as a water pump, lights etc. but all total cannot exceed the 30 amp 120VAC inlet from the pedestal.
If you have any other questions, please let us know. Happy Camping!
