Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2019 Chevy Sonic LT With RS Package

Question:

I am thinking of purchasing a 2019 Chevy Sonic LT with a RS package. I was wondering if I can flat tow it. I know the RS models you could not flat tow. Since this is not an RS model just a package will it matter? I just dont want to make this purchase then find out it cant be flat towed. Please advise. Thank you.

The online manual for a 2019 Chevy Sonic shows no restrictions for any model for flat towing. There are some steps listed that you will need to follow to get your Sonic ready to tow so you'll want to refer to your owner's manual. To flat tow your 2019 Chevy Sonic you'll need a tow bar, base plate, braking system, tow bar wiring kit, and safety cables. I have the following recommendations for you listed below:

Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # e47ZR. This tow bar features a non-binding design and telescoping, self-supporting arms to make hooking up and disconnecting on any terrain super easy.

Base Plate: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BX1703. This base plate has removable arms to provide a clean unobtrusive look when not in use and will connect to the tow bar listed above with no adapters needed.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit for Variable Voltage Incandescent Tail Lights # RM26FR. This diode kit includes everything you need to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your Chevrolet Sonic with variable voltage lights while flat towing. The 7-Wire to 6-wire cord and 6-way car-side socket included make for easy hookup and disconnecting from the RV.

There are fuses that need to be pulled in order for you to flat tow your Sonic. To make this as simple as flipping a switch instead of having to physically pull the fuses and place them back in when done you can use some fuse bypasses. If you do not have keyless access then you'll only need the # RM76511 for the DLIS 1 fuse in your engine fuse block. If you do have keyless entry you'll need the # RM76512 for the BCM1 and BCM2 in your passenger compartment fuse block and two # RM76511 for fuse DLIS 1 and fuse 7 from the engine fuse block.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This system offers intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking using the remote from your RV. The included charge line kit will prevent your Sonic's battery from depleting while towing so you don't arrive at your destination and then have to worry about a dead battery.

Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent the cables from dragging on the ground and being damaged.

You'll also most likely need a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level while towing your Sonic. This will require some measuring once the base plate has been installed. I've attached our help guide article to walk you through the process of determining the correct size adapter for your needs.
