Troubleshooting Tekonsha Prodigy 90195 Not Detecting Trailer With Newly Installed EOH Actuator
Question:
Need some help with my brake controller as I have tried everything and still head scratching. I have boat trailer we just installed a new Dexter eh1600 EOH actuator, new wiring harness with connection box, and new Dexter battery brake away system. Basically everything is brand new from the 7 pin connector back. We need to be able to pull this trailer with 3 trucks. My brothers 2020 Ford F-350 with integrated brake controller, my 2020 GMC Sierra with integrated brake controller, and my 06 Chevy 2500hd with a Prodigy P3 controller. We hooked up to all 3 trucks today, both 2020s worked but my 06 with prodigy did not. I tried both modes on the P3, electric and hydraulic, and neither worked. P3 shows no trailer connected in either mode. Now, wondering if my P3 was the issue, I hooked up to my aluminum trailer with electric trailer brakes and my gooseneck with electric trailer brakes. Both hooked up and worked flawlessly. It does not make sense why this new system works with the new trucks but not the Prodigy, supposedly the P3 is supposed to be one of the best controllers for this type of system. Need some help. Thanks!

I reached out to my contact at Tekonsha and while this is not something he has heard of before, he had a few tips to help find the cause of the issue.
You will need to use a circuit tester with an incandescent bulb such as the # PTW2993 and connect it to the blue wire on the back of your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 while it is set to the EOH setting. If doing so shows a trailer connected then the issue is with either the vehicle wiring or the connector, and if the test light connected does not show trailer connected then the issue is within the controller itself.
Chances are that there is something about the combination of your specific truck and that trailer that is causing a not great connection. I would double check that the trailer and vehicle connector are tight and there is no debris or corrosion in the connectors.
Let me know what you find with the test light and we can go into more in-depth troubleshooting if needed.
I included a video of the # 90195 for you to take a look at.
