Is Cellular Service Or Internet Required To Use The Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller?
Question:
Hello. Looking at the Curt Echo and the optional wireless button. I find that Android Auto slows down the phone which causes me a concern even if the app is running in the ground. However, I have a non-cell connected Android phone meaning it is fully functional just not connected currently to a cell serviceI keep old phones in case one breaks or gets lost. Does the phone controlling the braking unit need to be connected to cell service or just be running Bluetooth?

Luckily, the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional # C51180 does not rely on cellular service or internet to function. Once the app is downloaded, all you need is Bluetooth to connect to the Curt Echo brake controller. Then you can add the Manual Override Button for Curt Echo Brake Controller # C83HR which can be mounted on your dash to provide hands-free emergency brake override without picking up your phone; the app does need to be running for this button to function.
