Troubleshooting Violent Braking When Towing A Boat Trailer With A 2021 Grand Cherokee Overland

Question:

Hi there, I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 4wd. Towing a 17 foot Whaler, no trailer brakes. When backing up the vehicle, it violently applies brakes and BRAKES displays on dash. Consulted owners manual but so many features described don’t know where to start. Particularly disconcerting when backing down ramp to put boat in water. Please HELP? Thank you sir or ma’am!

This issue is most likely your ParkSense assist is stopping your car because the sensor in the rear of your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is sensing something (the trailer) in the way. To fix this you'll need to just turn of the rear ParkSense by hitting the button on your dash located under your UConnect system. This will stop the violent braking and allow you to back your boat trailer up to the dock.
