Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System Hitch Adjustment To Prevent Bars Rubbing Hitch Head

Question:

We are experiencing metal grooves on the top side of the bars where they are ed into the hitch pancake head. Is this an indication of need for adjustment what adjustments are needed? Secondly, what is the purpose of the tilt adjustment on the pancakr head? Is it just for ball height or something else? thank you for any info/insight you can provide.

You do need to adjust your Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System # RP66560 on your 2018 Airstream International Serenity travel trailer. The metal grooves that you are getting at the hitch side of your bars tells me that there is to much pitch in the head to your trailer brackets. This could be caused by the hitch height of the ball being to high or the frame brackets on your trailer being to low.

I have linked the installation instructions below that will help you through the adjustment process.

You want the hitch ball height on your tow vehicle to match as closely as possible to the height of your Airstream when it is perfectly level.

The trailer brackets should be installed as found on page 6 of the instructions in figure 6 as there is not an exact measurement for them and they are adjustable.

The head of your Stedi-Flex is adjustable in tilt/pitch as this is needed to fine tune the amount of pressure the bars place on the trailer brackets to transfer the correct amount of weight onto your vehicle for leveling.
