Are Electric Trailer Brakes Supposed to Make Humming or Buzzing Sound When Applied

Question:

Are all 4 breaks suppose to make a humming sound when engaged?

Helpful Expert Reply:

They sure are. The buzzing or humming sound means that the magnets that grab the armature surface of the brake drum and actuate the brakes are active and are receiving power from the brake controller. The humming noise does not indicate a problem.

My brakes do buzz but they just barely drag. If they are out of adjustment will they do that?

@LarryV The buzzing or humming is normal. When properly adjusted, the brake shoes will have a very slight drag on the brake drum. From what you describe, it sounds like you're all good to go!
