Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Clicking Noise and ER Code
Question:
I have a P2 installed since 2017 on my 2016 Honda Pilot and it has been working fine...until now. Recently, I noticed a clicking noise from the controller when I brake on the Pilot. The clicking noise doesnt happen all the time, intermittently. Also, a new wrinkle is that I recently had to tow my small travel trailer and when I plugged in the 7-pin connector, the P2 showed ERinch on the screen and no power was being supplied to the trailer tail lights through the 7 pin. With that said, the odd part is that after about 20-30 mins of driving time, the P2 seems to then be okay. The screen no longer shows the ERinch code, but show the normal .c. code and then shows a brake number when the Pilot brake is applied. The trailer tail lights work at this point as well. So, my question is - would this fall into the wiring issue as previously noted on other posts? If so, would you think it is more associated with the 7-pin connector than the P2 unit itself? Trying to figure out if I need to correct the wiring on the P2, replace the P2, or replace the 7-pin connector. Any advise is appreciated.

The clicking noise on the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 means there is a short detected in the wiring for the controller. The audible noise is a result of the controller shutting itself off. If the "E.R" code displays this could mean an internal error in the controller. I recommend checking over the wiring for the controller but if no shorts are found it would be wise to replace for which I recommend the new version, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195. The P3 has storable settings for different trailers and loads etc.
