Actually, for folks that don't mind having a brake controller attached to the underside of their dashboard, the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 is the brake controller I recommend most often.
The controller is super easy to use, and unlike many other controllers is very user-friendly with easy to use controls and an easily understandable display. The display will actually spell out any problems your trailer braking system is experiencing in plain language, rather than a certain color LED dot or an alpha-numeric error code you'll need to look up. The controller also features 5 presets which will come in very handy if you tow different trailers or use a cargo trailers whose weight varies quite a bit. You can set up the presets the way you want them and not have to recalibrate everything when you switch to a different trailer.
The controller installs as shown in the linked video, but for trucks that are equipped with the OEM brake controller, the procedure is slightly different because you'll need to bypass the output circuit as explained in the article I've linked for you. The install is simple and would take most less than an hour.
