How To Prevent a Dead Battery on Flat Towed Vehicle

Question:

I am flat towing my 2003 Honda Element. When I stop sometimes my battery is dead. All auxiliary things are off or disconnected inside the car. Is it OK to disconnect the battery while its being towed?

If you can safely disconnect the battery when towing is completely dependent on how you have your supplemental braking system powered. My suggestion is to simply install the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles, # RM-156-25. This is a very cost effective and easily installed component. while we do not have an installation video created of this product on a Honda Element, we do have a step-by-step installation video on a 2006 Honda CR-V. Please note the link below.

Kit allows up to 15 amps from your RV's battery to be used to maintain the charge of your towed car's battery while the car is being towed. Charge line connects to the 6-way or 7-way plug on your vehicle. Requires separate charge line in RV. Many motorhomes already have the needed charge line, but if yours does not, use the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes, # RM-156-75.
