How Does Locking Knob of Thule Spare Me Bike Rack Unlock
Question:
So, I have had this rack on my RAV4 for quite a while, and the key has definitely unlocked it. The handle clicks in either direction. If I lock it, it spins freely but doesnt click. So, I would guess its not gripping the long screw. How do I get it to grab?

The lock function of the knob of the Thule Spare Me part # TH963PRO works like you described. When the knob is locked it spins freely so that it can't actually unthread but when unlocked the knob is engaged. So you'd need to unlock the knob (which oddly locks it to the threads) so that it can remove.
