Recommended 600/6000lb Weight Distribution Hitch With Mounting Brackets 22" Back From Coupler

Question:

I have a 2016 Honda Pilot and a 22foot travel trailer that weights up to about 4,500 lbs. It feels dangerous on the highway, so I am in the market for a weight distribution hitch. I am considering FA92-00-0600 along with a separate 2 5/16 ball, EQ91-00-6100. The towing weight and tongue weight seem about right, and the shank gives me plenty of room for rise the receiver on the Pilot is low, so I will need about 6inch of rise. However, I am concerned about where I can apply the clamps to the A-frame. There are 3 places on the frame where I could attach the clamps. They are about 22, 27, and 37inch from where the hitch ball would attach. I am guessing the 27inch location is the best place, however the dealer installed a box for the breakaway cable, so I would not be able to apply the clamps there without drilling new holes to move the box. Is the 22inch location too short to produce the necessary force to properly distribute the weight? Is the 37inch location too long for the arms of the system? If the 27inch location is the only appropriate place, are you able to recommend a different hitch that could be clamped to the 22inch or 37inch location so I dont have to move the breakaway cable box? Thank you very much for your help.

I would be happy to help!

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch # FA92-00-0600 needs the mounting brackets to be between 27"-30" back from the trailer coupler, so it will not work at the 22" or 37" location you mentioned you have on your trailer frame.

Instead I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank # BLU36FR as its mounting brackets can be installed between 20" - 25" back so it will work perfectly on your trailer. This hitch works with trailers that have between 200-600lbs of tongue weight and up to 6000lb trailer weight making it nearly the exact same as the Fastway hitch.

I do recommend that you confirm the total tongue weight of your setup before purchasing a hitch. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight rating is with a tongue weight scale like the # e99044 but there are other methods outlined in the included help article.

As long as you have total tongue weight between 200-600lbs this would be a perfect option for you. With this system you can replace the included 2" hitch ball with the 2-5/16" hitch ball # EQ91-00-6100 that you mentioned.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
