Acceptable Vertical Play On Pivot Point of Reese Elite Series, # RP30871

Question:

I have the Ford OEM 18K version of this hitch with around 50,000 miles of towing. I keep all the pivot locations lubricated. Today I was cleaning all the old grease around the pivot locations to prep the hitch for an upcoming trip. Im now seeing ~1/16inch of vertical play up and down developing in the center pivot bar on both the front and back parts of the center pivot bar. There doesnt appear to be any significant horizontal left/right play. See photo Im curious if there is an acceptable tolerance I should be concerned about. I purchased my original Reese hitch from you 18 years ago so I know I can trust that you will give me good feedback and not just try to sell me a new unit if this one is still safe for towing. My 5th wheel weighs in at 15,800 lbs fully loaded. Thanks in advance!!

I reached out to a contact at manufacturer regarding your question on the Reese Elite Series, # RP30871. His response is that this (1/16") is a negligible amount and not that much off from some hitches straight from manufacturing; this is not something to be concerned about. Several times this movement with a lot of chucking before safety issues are a concern. He states to keep all points cleaned and properly lubricated, which it sounds like you do, and this will continue to serve you well.
