Assuming that you have the correct front wind deflectors that are customly designed to fit your 2017 BMW X5 like the WeatherTech Side Window Rain Guards with Dark Tinting # WT80437, there are a couple of tips that may help you with the functionality of your front windows. The first tip is to ensure that the only part of the deflector insterted into the window channel is the thin, machined flange along the edge of the deflector. Secondly, it is important to make sure that the bottom edge of the front deflector must be resting on the door’s outer weatherstrip molding. I went ahead and attached a photo of this part of the instruction manual that goes through this process (steps 5-7). Lastly, Check that the thin, machined flange of each deflector is fully and evenly inserted into the window channel. The deflector flange is designed to rest in the main window channel between the window glass and the rubber seal. If it is not inserted properly, the window will not function as normal.

With that being said, it is important to verify whether you have wind deflectors designed to fit your 2017 BMW X5. If you have the model number for your deflectors, I would be happy to confirm if they are designed your particular vehicle if you provide that information.
