What is the Tongue Weight Specification on Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount When Using Only Receiver

Question:

In your Notes: When mounting an accessory in this receiver, your hitchs tongue weight capacity will be reduced by 50 percent. When using both the ball mount and the receiver the tongue weight capacity is not affected. I do not understand the reduced by 50 and then the second comment says no affect. Please explain

I can see why this might be confusing! When using the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 to carry only a hitch mounted accessory in the top receiver and no towing load on the ball mount, the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your 2021 Grand Cherokee will be reduced by 50%. If you're towing a trailer and also using the upper receiver on the # D210, that won't apply since the load is also being applied to the ball mount and hitch ball.

So- let's say your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a tongue weight capacity of 500-lbs (you'll want to consult the owner's manual for the actual number); if you were only to use the accessory receiver then the tongue weight would be reduced to 250-lbs. If you're towing a trailer as well as using the top accessory receiver then you'll be able to use the entire 500-lbs of tongue weight capacity.
