Recommended Tires for Teske 4 x 8 Utility Trailer with 4.80-12 Tires

Question:

I have a Teske 4x8 utility with tire size 4.80x12. We haul a 1000 lb. motorcycle about 2000 miles at highway speeds. Currently there is about 3” of clearance between the top of the tire and fender. I can move the fenders up, if needed. 1. What would be the best tires for this trailer? 2. If a different tire size is used can I use my existing rims? Thank you!

For your Teske 4' x 8' utility trailer I would stick with the 4.80-12 tire size. From what I have found, your trailer weighs approximately 460 lbs so with your bike you are looking for tires that can handle 1,460 lbs and are rated for a higher speed. Based on this information, a larger tire would present no real advantage and would add the additional cost of new wheels.

I recommend the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. This radial tire has maximum load of 990 lbs at 90 psi (1,980 lbs since you will have two tires). It also has a speed rating of M which means the maximum speed is 81 mph.

I have attached a video review of the # TT48012C for your reference.
