Recommendations for Taillight Wiring and Base Plates on 2010 Smart fortwo

Question:

I’m using a 2010 Smart Fortwo passion as my tow car. I going to buy the base plate from your company but want to make sure it’s the right one. I have a blue ox tow bar on my motorhome so it has to be comparable with it. I also purchased a Tekonsha taillight isolating diode system with 4 -flat. Before I open this I need to make sure it’s the right one. After talking to a tech before I purchased it after looking at one of your videos on a 15 smart car I got a little nervous because you use different diodes. Lastly in that video when he converts to a 6/7 pin he cuts the white wire leading to the connector and grounds one side but leaves the other cut end. Should you tape off the other end and leave it there? Please help so I can purchase the rest of the parts. Thanks so much for all your help.

The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX1987 is a confirmed fit for your 2010 Smart fortwo. This will work with the Blue Ox Tow Bar.

The Tow Ready Tail Light Isolating Diode System with 4-Pole Connector, # TR118821 is the correct part for your 2010 Smart fortwo. With this kit, the towed vehicle's brake lights will function as both the brake and turn lights. A Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter, # 118158, sold separately, along with 2 additional diodes, Roadmaster Hy-Power Diodes, # RM-792, are needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

All wires should be isolated to prevent accidental shorting.
