You will need a different 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kit for your 2006 Ford F-150. The kit from the Chevy will not fit. There are different kits available but I recommend custom installation kit # RP50081-58. Custom kits require less drilling and install in less time than universal or semi-custom kits. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you.

You will need a slider hitch for a short bed truck in order to make tight turns without hitting the trailer against the truck cab. To determine if the hitch you have is a slider look at the legs and the handle(s). If the hitch is standing on four legs, like # C16140 for example and it has only one handle then it is a fixed hitch. If the hitch head is setting on 2 support legs that are on horizontal bars attaching to the rails, like # PS30121, and it has 2 handles then it is a slider.

If you need a slider hitch I recommend # RP30075. This is a Reese 16k round tube slider that will provide 12 inches of travel. It features a 4 way pivoting head and dual-jaws for increase jaw to king pin contact.
