Choosing Between The PD9160ALV And PD4060K For A 2019 Ford Transit 250 Build
Question:
I plan to put together a lithium ion likely single 170 amp battery, that can be charged with the 2019 ford transit 250 van alternator when driving, as well as shore power when available. In the future, we may add solar power as an option when shore power is not available and the van is turned off. My original plan was to use a or switch that disconnect plus plus and minus lead on both side of each option, to completely eliminate any change of two systems damaging one another. Additionally I was going to create a distribution system so the dc van components could be operated off the battery when no charging was available. The PD160ALV seemed perfect for the job, with the single short coming that when I hooked up to shore power it would charge the batteries once, and if they were discharged would not restart on its own. One of your helpers suggested the PD4060K for it would restart charging if needed and it had a distribution box. Can I take advantage of the distribution system with the general system I am desigining or will I just have an extra box I really cant take advantage of Please weigh in with any info or advice you think would be helpful in my decision. Time value of information is important, today would be great! Thx

The Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger - 60 Amp # PD4060K will allow you to convert AC shore power to DC power to charge your battery and have both your AC and DC distribution panels in one convenient location. It comes with 7 AC branch circuits rated at 30 amps each and two 30 amp and ten 20 amp DC fuses. You will need to flip the internal switch from LA to LI to charge your lithium battery before wiring it to the panel.
In lithium mode, the unit uses a higher output voltage, which provides a fast, complete charge. It also extends battery life since it utilizes the appropriate charging profile. Additionally, this mode is compatible with your battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS), which helps manage the charge cycle by monitoring the battery state and balancing cell voltage.
The # PD4060K is basically the # PD9160ALV but with the added benefit of having your AC and DC distribution panels all in one compact unit to consolidate space.
