Can The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Be Used With A Class 1 Hitch?
Question:
I have a 1 1/4inch class 1 hitch. Is just the 1 1/4inch size important, and this rack will fit? Or do I need a class 1 bike rack instead to use with my hitch? Thanks!

Not only is the size of the trailer hitch receiver important, but also the class is important. The Yakima Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02445 is only to be used on class 2 receivers so it will not work on your class 1 receiver. This is for a couple reasons, one being that class 1 receivers are not designed to hold the weight of some accessories, such as this class 2 bike rack. The second reason is that some hitch manufacturers actually weld in a stopper which blocks class 2 accessories from even being able to fit the receiver at all.
That said, I would stick with a class 1 bike rack such as the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU74FR. This fits 1-1/4" class 1 hitches (like yours) along with 2" receivers, so if you have another vehicle or change vehicles in the future it would fit that as well. The bikes will be secured by adjustable hooks that ratchet down on the wheels, no contact is made to the frame of the bike. I attached a helpful demonstration video for you.
