Problem Adjusting Dual-Cam Sway Control on a Weight Distribution System

5/2/13. I have a problem that I just can’t resolve. I have the Reese Dual Cam High-Performance Sway Control # RP26002. I have installed it by the instructions. I have a top coupler on my TT so I measured 18” from center of coupler and installed cam at the 18” to center of the pivot point as indicated in instructions. For final adjustments before I made my right and left turns then 100 yds straight I loosen the 2 nuts to the maximum limits. When driving I could hear the cam sliding into position. Upon completing the test drive I realized the round bar did not settle into the correct position. The cam had bottomed out up against the outside nut yet the round bar is about ½ inch from settling on the cam. The cam nut on the outside has no more adjustment to allow the round bar to settle. If you were looking at it, it would appear the round bar was about ½ inch to long to settle into the cam, we know that the round bar is not the problem, I am just trying to give you a visual picture of what I see. Additional Information my weight distribution system is Reese heavy duty round bar adjustable weight distribution hitch. I am sure that I am at 18” from center of coupler to center of pivot point. I am at 6 links on the chain. If I had installed at 17” instead of 18” the cam would have adjusted correctly. I hope you are able to give me some indication of where do I go from here, we are planning a trip this weekend. thanks

The measurements in the instructions for the Dual-Cam sway control # RP26002 are based on 5 chains links. Any time links are added or removed you have to readjust the dual-cam sway control as well. This might be the issue. If you can adjust the links to 5 chains and angle the head of the weight distribution system to level the ride then that may be all that is needed to get everything set just right.

Dual-cam sway control and weight distribution set up in general is a series of fine tunes to find just the right settings. I have included a link to a video showing a typical dual-cam system installation that might help.
