Troubleshooting Hayes Trailer Brake Controller LED Flashing While Driving With Camper

Question:

My Hayes brake controller light is blinking going down the road with my camper attached. The camper brakes seem to work fine as well as the lights. The brake lights on the camper are not blinking and the brakes don’t seem to be activated when the controller light is blinking. The controller light only blinks with the camper attached. I can pull my camper with my other tow vehicle with a Hayes controller with no blinking. The problem vehicle is a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. Any help diagnosing will be appreciated.

The LED light on your Hayes Trailer Brake Controller comes on when it senses power from the brake light switch or the controller is manually activated.

Your brake light switch on your 2015 Nissan Pathfinder may be faulty. Since it is just blinking it does not see the power long enough to activate the trailer brakes.

Since you have a 2nd Hayes controller on your other vehicle I would recommend swapping them to see if the same issue occurs with the other controller. This will tell you whether the controller is faulty or the vehicle brake switch is the issue.
