1,000 lb Blue Ox SwayPro Replacement Spring Bars to Upgrade From 750 lb Bars

Question:

I have recently upgraded my travel trailer to a larger one with more tongue weight. I currently have the spring bars that are rated for up to 750 lbs. The new camper is 615 lbs of tongue weight, us all the gear in the storage bins up front, about another 100 lbs. Are my current bars still sufficient, or is the margin to low and I should upgrade to the 1000 lb bars? I usually have about 100 lbs of stuff in my truck bed too, if that makes a difference. I know its payload, but dont know if it impacts the weight the bars see.

That's an excellent question, and the way weight distribution hitches work in regards to rating is that you need to take into account your total tongue weight, which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer, plus the weight of any cargo that is behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

So the 100 lbs of gear in your truck bed will absolutely be a factor, and you will want to upgrade from the 750 lb Blue Ox SwayPro spring bars to the 1,000 lb rated bars, which are the following part:

- Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System - 1,000 lbs TW # BXW4007

The # BXW4007 are rated for total tongue weights between 750 lbs and 1,000 lbs so they'll be perfect for your needs.
