Best Option for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2010 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 ft Bed

Question:

I have a 5.5ft 2010 ford f150 with a 15k reese pro series hitch. I am looking at my options with either a slider or a sidewinder and which one would be best. Can you guys explain to me which one is compatible with the most economical price? Thanks

The best option for towing a fifth wheel trailer with your 2010 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2 ft bed is using a sidewinder pin box and a fixed fifth wheel hitch. This is the only option that will allow you to safely execute a 90 degree turn. Sidewinder pin boxes are designed to fit specific OEM pin boxes, so if you can tell me the manufacturer and model number of your pin box (Lippert 1621, Fabex PB-600, Leland 7921, etc.), then I can recommend a specific sidewinder that will work for you.

I have attached an FAQ article on sidewinders for you to check out.

Using a sliding fifth wheel hitch will be the most economical option and it will provide additional clearance when turning, but it will not provide enough clearance between your trailer and truck cab to make 90 degree turns. Some people do tow without having the ability to make a 90 degree turn, but it is very important that you know the turning limitations of your towing setup to prevent costly damages. It also makes it more difficult to navigate through camp grounds or gas stations.
