Will Curt Echo Wireless C51180 Work Even If Phone Is Lost or Damaged?
Question:
If we are using a Curt echo for only one trailer, same weight every time, with multiple different tow vehicles. After the initial setup can this device be used without a cell phone? Like for example, its been sitting inside the trailer for a month, I pull it out, hook it up, attach the trailer and go, will it work if I never open the app on my phone? Or say someone else is borrowing the trailer and doesnt have the app installed? I understand this is not the ideal use case and you wont be able to change settings or use the emergency button. Just trying to understand if this is the way it will work. Basically are the last known settings stored internally even when disconnected? Or does the controller need to connect to the phone initially after being disconnected for a long time to remember what settings to use?

I reached out to my contact at Curt and the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 you have remembers the last settings indefinitely, so if your phone died or you left it at home it would still work just fine by using the stored settings.
With that said you should still have the app opened on your phone as that is how you can activate the manual override which is useful if you get trailer sway. If you are lending the controller to a friend you need to have them download the app on their phone so they can still change the settings and apply the manual override if needed.
I included a video of the # C51180 for you to take a look at.
