Do the Brakes Need to be Adjusted if They are not Locking with a Tekonsha P3?
Question:
Hi There! Great and quick delivery from you guys, thank you! So, after installation, I followed the directions to adjust the settings. I wound up all the way at 12, and still no lock-up, but the brakes did slow me down significantly. When I was ramping up I didnt notice a difference after 10.8, so I pulled it back down to that level as I didnt want the brakes to aggressive or burn something up. The trailer is a 27foot 5th wheel, it is less than 1 year old. The tow vehicle is a 2004 2500HD Duramax 4-door long-bed so its a larger vehicle. The trailer is very new, and the truck is roughly the same weight at around 10k so I did not set boost. So the question comes down to: should I be concerned that I wasnt able to get the brakes to lock up during the adjustment? Should I bump it up from 12?

With the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 set to the maximum, it typically will lock the brakes when the manual override is used. With that being said, if the trailer is stopping comfortably and not pushing your truck while stopping, you shouldn't need to mess with the settings.
However, if the trailer is pushing your truck, I would set the controller higher. If this still doesn't get the brakes to lock up, you may need to adjust the brakes higher
