Troubleshooting Tekonsha Prodigy P3 90195 Not Giving Much Braking Power
Question:
I cant get my brakes on my van to brake any where near effectively on any setting. I have jacked the van up and pulled the breakaway switch on, and the brakes lock up the wheels, while driving I slide the lever on and can only just feel the brakes activate but when I brake hard there is no brakes coming on on the van, I have suspected something is wrong for a long time but I was getting some sort of braking but now its as good as nothing, any suggestions would be welcomed

Since your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is not applying the brakes on your trailer strong enough, and you have already tried adjusting the braking power using the up arrow on the left side of the controller you will want to make sure that the controller is mounted inline of the direction of travel. If it is not then it will not sense the braking of your tow vehicle correctly and will not apply the brakes correctly.
If the controller is mounted correctly inline with the direction of travel, then you will want to check the brakes on your trailer to make sure there is not an issue there. With the trailer off the ground you should be able to spin the tire with just a little resistance.
If you are having no resistance then you will need to adjust your brakes slightly until you feel some resistance using a flat head screw driver or a brake adjustment spoon # W80630.
Let me know what you find and I would be happy to go over more in-depth troubleshooting steps if needed.
I included a video of the # 90195 and a link to a helpful article that goes over adjusting trailer brakes for you to take a look at.
