Does the Folding Mechanism Decrease the Tongue Weight of My Hitch on My 2021 Subaru Outback?

Question:

This cargo carrier has an extension to its tongue that allows it to fold. This effectively moves the load further away from the hitch receiver. Does this mean that the carrier should be loaded with less weight than the rated tongue weight for the hitch due to the added leverage? I have a 2021 Subaru Outback Limited XT with a class II hitch, rated to 350 lb. tongue weight. Im wondering how much cargo I can safely load it with, without damaging the hitch.

The tilting capability of the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Tilting - Folding - 500 lbs # e98874 does not decrease the maximum weight capacity rating of the hitch. The cargo carrier does not use an extension; we just manufactured the carrier with a longer shank for it to have the ability to clear the bumper on most vehicles. In other words, the mechanism is part of the shank itself and not an additional accessory that would decrease the hitch capacity by 50% on your 2021 Subaru Outback with a class II hitch rated at 350 pounds of tongue weight. You will be able to transport a load of 350 pounds of weight evenly distributed with the cargo carrier without damaging your hitch.
