How To Choose the Correct Size Transmission Cooler for a Vehicle

Question:

Hi, I am running a classic 1974 Ford Maverick, 250 ci 6 cyl, and I am planning to install a non-remote cooler on the front of my radiator. This will be my only source of cooling as my radiator has no provisions for cooling the automatic trans. I wont be towing, and I wont be racing either, just street use. I dont know which one non remote mounted cooler to install if a 16 -19 or 25 row. I would also like to install a frame rail transmission cooler.... Can you recommend a non remote mounted cooler and a frame rail transmission cooler for my car?

The best cooler for your application will be based on the space you have available to mount the cooler. The most popular transmission coolers we offer would be one of the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kits. These come in various sizes such as the part # D13502 which measures 11" wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep. I have attached the other size options as well.

In regards to a transmission frame rail coolers, these are less effective than those mounted behind the grille and I don't exactly recommend running multiple in line where the two are not side by side. The Derale Frame Rail Transmission Cooler part # D13224 however could be an option if you have space, it measures 23-3/4" Long x 1-3/4" wide x 2-1/2" deep. These are as well offered in various sizes which are attached for you.
